In the world of audio design, the quest for the perfect sound is a never-ending journey. Mostly, great sound comes with a high price tag.
Andrew talks about the newest Dellichord model, the 70S – a nod to the 70s era and simpler loudspeaker design with easy listening in mind. The 70S represents a bold step in prioritizing sound quality over aesthetics. Andrew’s vision was to design a speaker that delivers unparalleled performance without unnecessary bling such as grilles, expensive posts and fancy veneered MDF. These things make the speaker more expensive whilst adding nothing to the quality of the sound. The result? A speaker that not only sounds incredible but is incredibly cost-effective.
Andrew talks about the use of internally damped paper cone mid-bass driver, wide front baffle, asymmetrical driver positioning and why he made the controversial decision to use Birch Plywood instead of more commonly used veneered MDF.
Andrew discusses how he has decided to offer hands-on and DIY options in this model as well as the standard retail-ready option. This innovative approach reduces costs for the consumer but also invites owners to become part of the creative process.
